Battle Net Edition Maps

All You Need
Players : 8
Size : 128x128
Starting Mines: 35,000
The most popular BNE map simply because it is the first map on the list. Almost any new player to Warcraft 2 will host this map as their first game. Each spot is easily walled, so rushing doesn't work all that well. It is also a major pain trying to locate the enemy positions. You WILL face rushers alot on this map because most players who play it, are very new to the game. Make sure you place your mill right against the treeline where you are going to chop to your expansion. Two-halling is difficult on here because you have to walk so darn far.

Ant Trails
Players : 4
Size : 128x128
Starting Mines: 30,000
I usually find this map fun because people don't quite understand it. Make sure you wall high (above your expansion) with your mill. You need to chop out your expansion in order to be able to place a hall. Again, rushing is made difficult because of the simple defensive wall ins, and an annoying path to navigate to get to your enemies. You can also do a 1 chop, towards the center and then hop over it. Build a hall in middle (2 mines) and it will still be walled from the center trees because you hopped over them. I've done this numerous times. If you watch your peons closely, you can use the ant trails to make a back door path to blizzard the enemies expansion. You won't find too many games hosted on here but it is a fun map.

Big Rock Candy Mountain
Players : 5
Size : 96x96
Starting Mines: 55,000
This map is hardly ever played. The starting mines are absolutely huge for the amount of lumber that's around. Build your mill towards the edge of the map, where there is more lumber to be found, and an expansion covered by trees. The rocks go close to the edge of the map, so you can easily set up 2 on 1, or 3 on 2 choke points. Controlling your units becomes a huge problem because of the amount of money you have, and such little space to work with. All of the starting spots can blizzard the adjacent starting spots, so beware.

Cramped
Players : 2
Size : 32x32
Starting Mines: 35,000
A neat little map. The rocks are too thick to sapper through quickly, so it becomes a race for wizards. Humans have a huge advantage on this map because of the human mage spells that are available. On high resources, you will be using all the building room you have. Make sure you are using your choppers to chop 2 trees at a time, in order to make room. Spend your money wisely and don't lose your wizards.

Crosshair
Players : 8
Size : 128x128
Starting Mines: 65,000
Every starting spot starts walled in by trees. Chop out as soon as you can and get some zeppelins to check out what your enemies are up to. This map is a nightmare to navigate, and is the main contributor to why this map is never played. Again, there are too many resources available for how quickly you can use all of your units. Try to avoid this map.

Dark Paths
Players : 3
Size : 64x64
Starting Mines: 50,000. 40,000 on the tips.
A very cool 3 player free for all, or 1 on 1 map. I've only had an opportunity to play this map about 5 times, but it is the best 3 player map out there. Each starting spot is walled by trees, but you can chop to both adjacent starting spots with 1 chop. In a 1 on 1, it becomes a strategic battle for the open mine, and in a ffa game you all try to save your units and get any gold you can out of the middle mine. You can hop over the 1-chop spot as well to quickly get to a neighbour. There's some fun stuff you can do with this, including, causing your enemy believe you started where you didn't.

Dark Peninsula
Players : 4
Size : 128x128
Starting Mines: 55,000
A decent map. You will see it hosted now and again on Battle Net. All 3 of islands can be hopped to using very few peons. These are great expansions that are completely safe from land attacks. All the starting positions are close to each other, so rushing is lethal. If someone walls in on you, you can quickly have cats on them. You can also walk around the back of his treeline to cause some more trouble. Make sure you are chopping to your second mine as well.

Forsaken Isles
Players : 2
Size : 128x128
Starting Mines: 45,000
I have NEVER seen a game hosted using this map. You can hop to the top left island in the middle, using a couple of peons and 2 shipyards, but who cares? It will kill you if you try it. This map is about grunts. You can defend against grunts on this map by setting up choke points along the lake shore, but it is difficult. In a 2 on 2 game you won't get to get an expansion unless the game is already over. Hit them hard and fast.

Frosty Fjords
Players : 4
Size : 64x64
Starting Mines: 62,500
I really dislike this map. I've played it several times, and the result is always the same. The mines are huge, and it is impossible to navigate ships, or transports through the mess of islands. You just cannot spend your money fast enough. Juggs can hit the peon lines, but they will probably be castle by the time you get there. Take lots of expansions, built lots of towers, and dragons, until your enemy finally gets fed up with it. Expect a really long game if equally skilled players are playing.
