How do you avoid a drawn out game?

I actually enjoy long games especially when my mages play a huge part in the game

How do you avoid a drawn out game?

Dont you just hate those games that waste a ton of time. Its usually a stalemate type situation, because niether of you have gold, and only a few units, like a couple dk's and ogres. But you keep killin eachother's expansions, and your towns have towers in them, what can you do to avoid it or end it quickly?
