PVT proxy. It does look tough.
yeah that's a decent example, both players kind of suck at it though. the terran should have at least started a rax instead of going all in on scv's, and the toss guy had really shitty positioning on his gate/pylons. you want to use the terrain and buildings to "wall off" parts of your pylons so he can't attack with so many scv's. but that's the general gist, keep making pylons as he kills yours
(if you're terran, attack the gate instead of the pylons stupid) _________________

I like Scrubbo's idea better:
use bunkers

i've noticed you can no longer view offline friend's profiles. seriously they fuck up viewing profiles every single patch in a different way
only been able to view 9 people at a time on the ladder is pretty annoying as well

Yeah the battlenet interface is facepalm.
Diamond rank 4 pretty ez. Funny though, the placement players had more advanced strategies than the last few runs (i.e. watching vods and replays), but when they run into shit they never seen they get rape. I lost one PvP to some fucker who did pheonix + gateways, didn't scout it till i was halfway done making a colossus and range, then freaked out and cancelled both and threw down cannons etc... meh _________________ Kanuks - The fact is you and foonew tried a double gay on me and ended up being BOTH behind me. I was actually thinking today that I didn't mind the interface itself. It's fairly slick and there's lots you can do with it.
My biggest beef with it, of course, is every single thing to do with friends/community/chat. So that's a pretty major beef all things considered. But the rest of it isn't too bad.

I like what they have. They need to eliminate the bugs, implement a chat and give people unique handles that they can add each other by. The facebook should be a feature not a necessity. Most people playing games want to keep their anonymity. _________________ I have hacks in my brain and I use them.

finally got around to finishing my placement matches. Platinum, 4-1. I got raped silly one game by a zerg going speedings/banelings/mutas. Other 4 games was just stomping a buncha terrans TVT. _________________ Give me a lever long enough and I shall move the world. - Archimedes

I'm only in platinum so far. Last reset lost most of my matches so I could see what it's like to climb the ladder so I started in bronze.
The funny thing is I lost to the low rank guys more often then I do to the higher. They do things that you're not use to seeing and their timings are different, selection of units, etc. It's easy to be lazy in the lower leagues and if you're caught off guard you're pretty screwed.
Funniest loss I've had is losing to a scv + marine rush as protoss in bronze.

They do a lot more cheese. Like chances of a reaper rush, proxy, zergling all in or OT are high. _________________ I have hacks in my brain and I use them.

Nice. Diamond is harder to get into and zerg should have a much easier time in ZVT with these latest changes in patch 14 & 15. Now we just need chat rooms, lan support, cross regional play, and our real ladder ranking displayed. _________________ Give me a lever long enough and I shall move the world. - Archimedes

I don't even think anyone has been promoted into to diamond. They might have removed it. _________________ I have hacks in my brain and I use them.

With the game you are talking about, you probably played enough games to trigger a "review checkpoint". At that point the system checks your MMR rating and compares it to everyone else. Even if your MMR rating fell slightly because of your most recent game, it is weighted more heavily by all of the games you have played since your last review. I don't know how many games there are between review check points. Let's say there are reviews every 20 games. Say you went 15-5 in your last 20 games. Even if your last game was a loss, the system might still determine your MMR is high enough to promote you. MMR is your hidden skill level calculated by the system. It is different than the number that is displayed to you. If you play many games, eventually the MMR and displayed skill level should converge. We talked about this in the rankings thread.

The system periodically re-evaluates your placement every X games. X varies and nobody knows because Blizzard is explicitly not telling us. These are called "review checkpoints" and it is important to remember that the result of the promotion or demotion reflects your persistent MMR relative to other players, and may not be consistent with the result of your most recent game. If your eligibility for promotion remains unchanged at the time of checkpoint, you will be promoted.
