Can hosting be fixed?

Seriously... is it even possible to fix the hosting problem on Server.War2.Ru? Can it be done?

If it cannot well then that sucks.. But, if it CAN be fixed I suggest we find someone who can do it, ask them how much it will cost to hire them to do it, then raise the money. We raised over $500 for allstar in like 3 days, I'm sure we can raise enough to hire someone to fix our hosting problem (again, if it is even possible to fix it)

IF we can get it fixed... I think the next step would be getting players back on the server (and new players)

... I would suggest have ANOTHER donation to decide as a community where we want to advertise Server.War2.Ru and try to rebuild the community. (gaming forums and gaming websites for example)

The fix has always been known (IPX), but its difficult to implement without introducing a lot of latency lag, it's also not meant for internet so each game has to be treated as it's own Lan which makes things more difficult to develop. A similar problem exists with a VPN setup, it works, but it introduces a lot of latency lag. The best fix is either a UPnP setup (which has already been proven to work by yours truly), or an IPX server which I'm not going to embark upon but in another thread I gave the method to do so using IPXWrapper or DOSBox, both of which can be used to create a Kali like service with enough time investment in coding.

Well, i'd say yes.
Not hosting, but the games could be really fixed.

First thing is really uPNP. I think it could cover about 15% of hosting problems.

Second thing is NAT traversal. You can know one of it's example when you try to join to your friend and get error and then he joins to you and succeed. But both of you have NAT with no port forwarding.

I think, should cover 80% of hosting problems.

Everything required, is to make a program and insert is to the new version of combat.
Not so easy, but it's really possible.

Not sure, but $pace's version could use such technologies.

It's in plans after pvpgn updating and some fixes.
I really have no idea if i have enough time for that plans...

if you find someone that can do it, and find out about how much it would cost... i bet we could get enough donations to do it

most of us war2 players are adults with good paying jobs now.... a hand full of players are probably able to donate $20+ every once in a while to keep the game going no problem

What do you think about small monthly donations for hostings?
It requires about $10 per months for each one, not much money even for me, but w/e?

1. We have the main server hosting with absolutely no problems except payment.

2. We have backup server hosting with reqular problems, several times in 1-2-3 months, but working all the other time. Also could be used for aux purposes to keep the main server dedicated for bnet-only.

3. Would be good to have a separate windows-hosting for host bot. About $10 per month also. Mousey's one is good, except random disconnects with manual restart only, and some troubles with real ip, when no one can connect the game.
And when no hosting under maintence time...

4. Could be a good idea to give faster hosting to mousEy's project, if she won't oppose. Current hosting is lagging as a hell and requires about 6 sec to load 1 page for registered users.
Good page load time should not be greater than 0.5s.

So, that would be the best way to donate firstly if you want to support the project.
