What is Map Controll?

What is map Control and why is it important? And how can i win without it. ITs what I always here the 247 people like pimster and guan talk about. I think it is having mines and paths scouted to kill expansions. But im not entirely sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Map control is simply having no fear that the enemy will over power you with units. It just means that you know you have a significantly more powerful army at that time. It allows you to send peons to build wherever you want, as well as control the expansions and paths.

You can win without it by powering. If you can't eventually build a stronger army then what the enemy has, then you're not going to win. But if you 2 halled early...the enemy has map control, but not for long if they dont stop your 2 hall.
