 Job Opportunities

So in Alberta, there are 4 projects starting in the next year or so valued at 8-9 Billion dollars. The estimated work force requirements are in the 10,000+ manpower range for 4-5 years.

If anyones down on their luck or looking for a break it may be a decent place to work if you can get past the obvious morale dilemna.

Anyways...
with 27 billion in projects, engineers, labourers, inspectors, pipefitters, welders, electricians, document control folks will be in high demand. Since our dollar is still pretty close to par with the US dollar, and our wages are generally 20-40% higher in Alberta (compared to southern states), it's just food for thought for folks.
We won't be able to fill the labour demand, and thus getting a working visa should be relatively easy. Most places provide camp accomodations while you're up there, all you need to do is bring yourself.

edit: I know most of you wouldn't take anything like this seriously, but I do know folks that have travelled out here from St.Thomas (was basically a car factory town that went under), and they'll literally sweep floors for a year as a labourer, and make 100k+ no problem.

You could come out now, but most of the work won't start until spring.

Anyways, carpenters out here join the scaffolders union. Scaffolders make around 35/hr, plus pension, over time etc.

If you're actually a machinist Jon, they do quite well in the Edmonton area. High demand for them and they usually start around 25/hr from what I've seen. Probably higher depending on experience.

Not really. I mean, they'll do ok, but no more so than anywhere else. The demand is in trades, engineering, and inspection. Also, camp staff (cooks, cleaning etc).

im not sure if its for life; however, when I tried to cross the border a year ago I was held for 2 hours and told I wasn't allowed in due to my record.

Yeah the boarder from Canada to U.s. is pretty strict because let's face it Germany and Austraila and all that is pretty much the third world countries and we keep shit on lock down to prevent the dumb shit that happens in other places like Africa and Mexico. Not that anything I just made was correct in anyway and or made any sense what so ever but it sure as hell was fun to fucking type all of this with a nice troll face!! Laughing
