Viking vs Phoenix vs Corruptor (pros and cons)
Okay, short analysis about flying anti-air units:
Viking:
+ Incredible range
+ Slow attack, high armor penetrating
+ Ability to harass undefended enemy workers and bases by going on ground form
- Slow attack, not very good against big swarms of air units
- Ground form is weak
- Slow acceleration
- Low armor
- Relatively slow
Corruptor:
+ Incredible armor
+ Slow attack, high armor penetrating
- Passove Corruption ability which increases the damage done to the target
- Slow attack, not very good against big swarms of air units
- No instant ability for killing ground units (only transform to brood mother)
- Range is short compared to vikings
Phoenix:
+ Fast acceleration and maximum speed
+ Ability to attack while moving
+ Fast attack, good against big swarms of air units
+ Ability to lift ground units to air, making them killable by the phoenix
- Fast attack, bad armor penetrating
- Range is short compared to vikings
- Low armor

Mainly because then the damage comes in big doses, which means high armor value isn't as effective as against series of smaller damage checks like Marines's machine guns.

to explain further:
Say you've got a corruptor that does 30 DPS and shoots every second.
This means that it basically shoots for 30 damage every single time. If a unit has 5 armor, this is mitigated so it would do 25 damage.
Now take a marine and let's say it does 30 DPS, and shoots 3 times per second. Each shot does 10 damage, against the same armored unit it would do 5 damage each shot. Totalling 15 damage. So the benefit is that it does more actual DPS because less of it's shots are mitigated by the armor which is why slow firing units are counters to high armored units.
