some questions, firstly why did those masked intruders cut the power to make it difficult for the family to find the guy they wanted hiding in their house. i guess you could argue they just wanted to toy with them but planned on killing the family as well.

why did the father not untie the man so he could help fight the masked intruders? what was even his plan, to fight them all himself? his wife and child were useless handling a gun and he told his kid to go hide.

definitely some head scratching moments and a movie with such a plot confined entirely to one house seems lacking in its potential. this was a country-wide event after all.
Those are definitely important questions. Thanks for having the courage to ask them.

you enjoy being an awkward retard?

its a pretty gimmicky/dumb idea tho, so...

i think most people in existence have had the idea of what if crime, especially murder, was legalized for a day.

its a dumb movie but it was entertaining. i liked the social allegory (blacks/poors suffer and die, rich kill them and live, except when other rich guys decide to kill them) it was just too in-your-face about it instead of being subtle and interesting. and jon i dont know the answers to your questions

it was a rhetorical question, i was curious if these thoughts about the character incoherency crossed your mind.

it wasn't a b-movie... not even remotely lol. not that it matters, i'd still pay attention to the plot and what is going on. not mindlessly stare at a screen for an over an hour , like you did apparently.

The Purge: 1.5/5

Great idea which was poorly executed. I viewed it as a mashup of Panic Room and Battle Royale/Hunger Games.

It could have been so much better. Like GN, I too had this idea for a movie and you could do sooo much more with it than what they did.

I agree Tman, some total shit coming out these days. Best movie I have watched lately was Flight with Denzel, one of his best imo.

you know it was going to be a piece of shit after watching the trailer. max brooks didn't seem to like it either, apparently it ignored most of the book.

wwz wasn't great but I honestly didn't think it was that bad. It was watchable and decently entertaining imo, but I also like zombie movies so maybe that helped. The script was kinda stupid like having brad pitt go to israel just because some random crazy guy with no teeth told him to (or maybe I missed something or maybe he was just desperate? still seems silly to fly around the world on a whim). though, I did really like the scope of the movie and seeing the global effect of the zombie plague and the main character going to different parts of the world even if the script didn't really give him a good reason to. I can't really think of any other zombie move like that so it seems pretty unique in that regard.

also, are there really a lot of other zombie movies with one dude trying to save the world? nothing really comes to mind.

lol you're right right - the only one that comes to mind is i am legend. i guess i was thinking more generally about the worldwide pandemic genre where there's always one guy/girl with the race against time to find the cure. i mean i guess him globetrotting is a new thing, and they managed to create some pretty tense scenes with no gross-out factor (movie barely even had any blood in it?) but other than that i thought it was pretty derivative

Not worth the $30 to go out to a movie anymore. Pacific Rim looks interesting.

yeah no shit, extortion imo. with 4k/8k tv's & ultrafast internet just on the horizon, they'd be stupid not to be a little more competitive i would've thought!

it's usually around $10 each for the entry and if u share a big popcorn and soda it's like another $10. smaller theaters that show independent or art films are cheaper

rofl did u catch that too - in the middle of fighting for their lives with guns and shit - comedic break for jordans on victorious struggle - but they had other lines in there too like "how do u lose a rocket launcher" too prolly loosen up some tension

yeah and stephen king didn't like kubrick's version of the shining because it strayed too far from his book. bottom line is this: the shining and world war z are modern masterpieces that will be remembered long after the books are forgotten

wow you thought it was that good to be compared with the shining? i haven't even watched it yet but doubt it could be on that level.

I really hated World War Z. Totally didn't give a shit for any of the characters, and Brad Pitt's scarf.

watched some shit movies recently...you guys will probably love 'em:

cabin in the woods, avengers, django unchained

django is full of the same shit QT always does: lots of posturing and making dumb jokes out of everything...

cabin in the woods is kinda the same...an entire movie filled with the most obvious horror cliches trying to pass itself off as "deconstruction"...really it's just a way for the creative team/audience to indulge in the same bs while pretending they're above it all...pretty lame...might as well call the "scary movie" franchise deconstruction while you're at it...

avengers...if you've seen any of the other avenger-related movies then u know why this is shit...
