Fantasy Baseball Advice (Blid maybe?)

Does anyone play fantasy baseball here? I have a chance to join a fantasy baseball league for money this year. There are two teams that I can choose from. Can someone give me advice here as I've never played it before and I'd rate my baseball knowledge as average. A) Are any of these teams even worth picking up or are they too shitty? B) If yes, which team should I choose and who should I pick as my 12 keepers?

Here are the cats for the league:

Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Total Bases (TB), Batting Average (AVG), On-base Percentage (OBP)

Pitchers Stat Categories: Wins (W), Losses (L), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP)

Here are rosters for the two teams:

So I took the team with Braun on it. Any suggestions on keepers?

I was thinking the keepers should be: Braun, C. Davis, Encarnacion, Hernandez, Gallardo, Kuroda, Hughes, E. Cabrera, Bourn, McCann, Sandoval, Granderson.

those pitching categories are kind of weak heh, counting both wins and losses makes having pitchers on winning teams more important than having good pitchers :X

12 keepers is a lot, wow. lol the team you picked is way way better than the other scrub team. chris davis, encarnacion, braun, that's a really solid start, the other team had good pitchers but you've got king felix.

yeah of course. he was good last season, some power and obp and stolen bases too. i guess since cabrera gets sb from ss position you should keep him too, but crisp is better than hughes bourn granderson

what is your response to rumors that you stopped setting your lineup in basketball because jon owned you

I already posted in that thread why I stopped setting my team. I got called out to a lease with no service and had to stay out there for almost a week twice in a row and it fucked my team for to weeks

Yeah i'd say not. do you have to keep 12? look how bad hughes sucks. plus he's on the twins now instead of the yankees which is bad for win/loss. maybe youre gambling the change of scenery will make him stop sucking? could be but i wouldnt waste a keeper on him. granderson had his days when he was good but he's been tanking for awhile, he strikes out like crazy now and basically either makes an out or hits a home run, except he's usually making outs. i guess i would keep him if you have to just in case he bounces back somehow since he did used to be good but i dont expect that to happen. bourn has never been great. he used to steal a lot of bases but if you look last season not only did he not steal so many he also got caught a shitload, means it's not a wise move for him to even attempt it as much anymore. looking at his numbers i guess in the past he's been a fine obp guy in addition to the SBs but ehh, these choices probably aren't that important since none of these guys are so good

you should have returned to setting your lineup again when you were able to, it's bad for the league to have inactive teams.

there wont be anyone left to draft after all these keepers, lol

jk therell be rookies and shit i guess. maybe you can get someone like tanaka because you need pitching. jose abreu is another guy that might hit the ground running but you already have a 1b. if no one is keeping billy hamilton he's pretty intriguing.

Here is the screen shots for the first page of hitters and pitchers. Any suggestions?

You seem pretty set on positional players
C McCann
1B Davis
2B
SS Cabrera
3B Encarnacion
*3B Sandoval
OF Braun
OF Crisp
OF Granderson
OF Bourn

Really you only need a 2B, which would be Prado, but you're so complete already that I would draft pitchers the first several rounds before worrying about hitters, unless you see a steal (or unless your lineup has a ton of extra position slots?). You can much better afford to get a shitty second baseman though than you can afford to have only
SP Felix
SP Kuroda
SP Gallardo
as your pitchers and no one else. You have no closers but it's usually not good to place too much emphasis on closers or take them too early. Of course you already have 12 guys so it's not early I guess. Still, I'd take Tanaka, hands down, if he's available. Starting pitcher, possible elite potential. If he's not then, well, that whole pitching page is pretty much nothing but closers so I guess you could take one of them. Doesn't seem to be as many SP on there though so I'd first try to get any strong SP you can unless the closers start dwindling

Thanks for the advice Blid. I have attached a screenshot of the starting pitches that are available. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I have a feeling Tanaka will be sniped before my 3rd overall comes up.

you see cueto has nice ERA/WHIP numbers there but was injured last season. i hear he's pitching well so far in spring training so he looks good. the rest of those guys dont look too exciting to me but i dont know the full story on all of them. i like jimenez personally - pitched lights out in the 2nd half last year - but he's not a sure thing and is on a new team in the AL East. pretty slim pickings basically. so uhh, tanaka/cueto and if they're both gone then that sucks heh.

Thanks Blid. I'll set my rankings to Tanaka, Cueto, Jimenez.

What's going on with Lincecum? The kid used to be lights out.

he has an unorthodox deliver and came back one year and just sucked. it's a precise art i guess when you've get such a crazy delivery. he was better last year but not great. i think most people were predicting he'd blow his arm out, instead he just lost the magic
