what i heard is the scientists are all excited and concerned cuz the asteroid was discovered at 2000 but got lost in 2011, no astronomer or observatory could find it until 2 weeks ago [insert twilight soundtrack here]
its gonna pass close to earth in 2 days (feb18) and its 9 times the distance the moon is
and is one 6th the size of pluto.
visible at eyesight from the canarian islands
all this events happen almost exactly 1 year after the asteroid events that ocurred last year (feb 15) in russia where there were injured and stuff

this got me thinking though, how long would it take for it to be announced that an asteroid is about to fuck this earth up? say they find something that registers 10 on the torino scale and it's going to hit within a month.. do they announce it to the public right away and risk humanity devolving into total chaos or do they wait awhile? do they even bother to announce it at all?
