don't care much for the self-proclaimed deities part but I like this:

quote:
Another defense for not adhering to modern-day religion is their claim that the teachings of all major prophets have been distorted over time, whether by translation into new languages or by intentional tampering. This can produce bigotry and zealotry in well-meaning believers. Thus, according to the Nation of Gods and Earths, it is better to study as many different religions and cultures as possible, to find the common truths in them, rather than focusing on the differences between them. This way, one finds his or her unique and most productive path to the Knowledge of Self.

i agree with that but that position isn't mutually exclusive with sunni islam

the qu'ran is surely objectively correct and perfect, however those who have interpreted it have been flawed men one and all, even the prophet (pbuh). luckily islam is the least hierarchal and authoritarian of the monotheistic religions so one man's poor interpretation does not set the course for the entire religion, in the way that, say, the catholic church in many ways has harmed christianity through its harmful interpretations of the bible

yea I would agree the bible has seen significantly more distortion throughout history. That shouldn't be surprising though with the history of murderous thug kings who thought they had divine right.

here is a good refutation to the charges that the qu'ran forbids homosexuality: http://www.well.com/~aquarius/Qurannotes.htm

when you can create a thread that's essentially about nothing with no coherent opinion, solely created just to rile people up and it can generate 14 pages, that shows elite master trolling levels honed over at least a decade.

hopefully this wakes up science fanboys to the obvious fact that technology is encoded with destruction and every new scientific advancement brings us and the planet closer to oblivion.

the original sin wasn't eve eating an apple, it was the time some random hominid first shaped a tool.

I agree with this. technology does make your life simpler - but I think there is a point we can say enough is enough. Growing up - I've often heard older humans say they can do without the technology and gadgets, bells and whistles; and to a sense, i'm starting to feel I share that point of view, but not from this crotchety stubborn old stoic way of life - but for the point that, I feel it's becoming "too much"

Stephen hawkings has just recently begun to state the same idea. we often become what we imagine - and if some of the sci-fi movies like "screamers" - ... not too far off with machines "learning" enlightment and programing their own orders. metal > flesh - ironically science tells us this too.

I appreciate the simplified life of technology what entertainment it can bring with it too - but only to an extent because I do believe "life" can exist without such inventions - and can co-exist with proper usage and even moderation

"science fanboy" lolol, that's like calling someone a "knowledge fanboy".
that's what science is , the pursuit of knowledge about the world and the universe around us. it's not about manufacturing gadgets.
kind of scary to think where we'd be today without that kind of thirst for knowledge.

every scientific advancement brings us closer to destroying the earth's biodiversity, sustainable ecosystems, and our climate; gives us more destructive means of warfare; increases our reliance on non-renewable resources; inches us closer to the arrival super-germs; etc. self-sufficient hunter-gatherers dying at 20 are more sustainable than a 21st century human living in a modern city.

i guess those could be considered the product scientific advancements in that those advancements created a much higher living standard then we've ever seen in history. that has created a much larger population on earth resulting in much of the habitat destruction, either for living space or agriculture.
super germs are the result of eradication of disease for decades which only now bacteria/viruses are beginning to evolve making our vaccines worthless.

so what is your argument , that we shouldn't continue to advance our technology and live in darkness and disease? cool, but it's a hard argument to take seriously from someone making it on their computer over the internet.

my argument is that science is ghey and people who cheer it on support the extinction of the humman race.
